American Federation of Teachers Launches Bid to Unionize Doctors

The American Federation of Teachers is aiming to unionize the nation’s doctors with a new organizing initiative.

Doctors have increasingly been turning to organized labor to address burnout and deteriorating workplace conditions stemming from the pandemic and higher rates of mergers within the industry.

AFT has organized over 3,000 physicians over the last year in states including New York and Oregon, according to a Tuesday statement that also announced plans to form a new doctor-focused division within its health-care team.
