American Airlines Pilots Want Coronavirus ‘Letter’ in Contract

A union that represents about 15,000 American Airlines pilots is looking for quick action from the airline amid ongoing collective bargaining to give the workers more certainty about their workplace rights in relation to the growing coronavirus crisis.

“If pilots are under quarantine for two weeks because of possible exposure to the virus, we want language that protects them,” Dennis Tajer, a spokesman for the Allied Pilots Association, said on Tuesday. The union also is looking for contract language that would allow pilots to refuse flights due to coronavirus concerns without having to take vacation or sick leave.
