Amazon’s Reach Reflected in Record Advocacy from Shareholders

Amazon.com Inc. has attracted the most shareholder proposals of any U.S. company this year, on topics from food waste and facial recognition technology to the environmental effects of warehouses and its headquarters’ impact on local housing.

The 15 shareholder proposals from Amazon’s employees and investors reflect the company’s growing business footprint and the increased scrutiny from policymakers and the public. In the past, only huge companies like Exxon Mobil Corp. and Chevron Corp. have come close to receiving as many shareholder proposals as Amazon has this year, according to data from Institutional Shareholder Services.
