Allied Universal Agrees to Pay Almost $1.1 Million in Back Wages

A global security provider will pay $1.1 million in back wages and liquidated damages to 778 employees after allegedly failing to comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act’s overtime and recordkeeping provisions, according to the Labor Department Friday.

Universal Protection Service LP, operating as Allied Universal Security Services, allegedly deducted 45 minutes from employees’ workdays automatically while routinely requiring security workers to remain at their posts for their meal breaks.

Allied Universal then allegedly failed to make adjustments to employees’ hours when they worked during breaks. Such alleged conduct violates federal overtime and recordkeeping regulations, said the agency.
