Allied Pilots Association Becomes Union For Merged American Airlines Workforce

The National Mediation Board on Sept. 16 designated the Allied Pilots Association as the representative for nearly 15,000 pilots at the merged American Airlines (In re: Allied Pilots Ass’n, 9/16/14).

The NMB’s action expanded the APA’s certification as the bargaining agent for almost 9,900 American Airlines pilots to include 5,100 pilots at former US Airways, who previously were represented by the U.S. Airline Pilots Association.

The board said the pre-merger pilot groups were “not comparable” in size, which means an election among the combined workforce to determine their single representative won’t be held.
