Alabama Governor Signs High-Priority Virus Liability Shield (1)

Alabama is the latest state to limit businesses’ risk of liability lawsuits related to Covid-19, under legislation signed into law by Gov. Kay Ivey.

The measure signed on Friday was a top priority of the Republican governor. It provides immunity from civil liability claims related to coronavirus illness or exposure for businesses, schools, churches, health-care providers, and others. The legislation codifies as state law the liability protections that Ivey had declared through an emergency order last May.
