Montgomery, Ala. reached a settlement with a Black worker one week before trial was set to begin on claims the city denied him a coveted promotion on racial grounds.
Gary Sharp, the grants coordinator for Montgomery’s Community Development Block Grant Program, applied to be the city’s economic and community development director. However, the position went unfilled for nearly eight months, after which it was refreshed with updated qualifications. Ultimately the job went to another candidate.
A June 9 order said the parties had informed the court they’d reached a settlement, and directed them to file a joint stipulation for dismissal. ...
