Air Ambulance Providers Lose Case Over No Surprises Act Awards

A federal district court in Texas permanently threw out a lawsuit brought by air ambulance companies against Health Care Service Corp. for failing to pay awards from a No Surprises Act independent dispute resolution proceeding.

The 2020 law, aimed at protecting patients from being charged out-of-network rates in emergencies and in situations where patients are treated at network facilities by out-of-network providers, doesn’t give health-care providers the right to sue to enforce an IDR award, Judge Jane J.
