Agriculture Department Workers Choose Union as Relocation Looms

About 200 employees of the USDA’s Economic Research Service will be represented by the American Federation of Government Employees as workers voted 138 to 4 in favor of union representation May 9.

One of the first orders of business for the union will be fighting an effort by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to move the ERS out of the Washington area, said Peter Winch, a special assistant for AFGE District 14 in Washington. The AFGE already represents about 10,000 USDA employees.
