AFL-CIO’s Shuler Pledges 1 Million New Union Members in 10 Years

Newly elected AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler pledged to organize 1 million workers over the next decade, testing her own ability to reverse a steady decline in US union membership.

The effort will be coordinated through a new central office—the Center for Transformational Organizing—which will employ a team of researchers and strategists to advance collective organizing goals, Shuler told reporters after she was elected to a four-year term Sunday.
