The AFL-CIO will file two complaints under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement within the next month, the labor federation’s president said—actions that would mark the first two known charges under the new North American trade deal.
The complaints will argue that Mexican authorities have failed to enforce union-strengthening provisions under the trade deal, which took effect July 1, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said Thursday. Mexico’s labor commitments were crucial to the deal’s ratification.
