AFL-CIO Delays Quadrennial Convention Because of Pandemic

The nation’s largest labor federation voted to delay its quadrennial convention due to the coronavirus pandemic.

• The AFL-CIO said its 29th constitutional convention would be moved from October 2021 to June 2022 so the event could be held in person
• The delay effectively gives federation President Richard Trumka and other elected officers an extra eight months in office; Trumka hasn’t said whether he’ll seek re-election
• The decision was made by a unanimous vote of the AFL-CIO executive council.
