AFGE Reports Nearly 285,000 Members

The American Federation of Government Employees had 284,715 dues-paying members as of Nov. 30, AFGE President J. David Cox Sr. told reporters Dec. 6.

According to Cox, the union’s current membership is close to its largest ever. The union’s current goal is to reach the 300,000-member level, he said.

The number of AFGE union members increased by 1,100 members in November alone, Cox said. This represented a net increase in membership, he said, adding that the union loses a certain number of members each month because of retirement, people leaving the union and other factors.
