US Derivatives Regulator Warns Clearing Firms About Crypto Risks

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commissionis warning firms that they will face more scrutiny if they provide clearing services for digital-asset transactions.

The regulator’s Division of Clearing and Risk said in an advisory on Tuesday that the agency will apply additional scrutiny because of heightened risks associated with digital assets. The unit, which is known as DCR, added that it expects derivatives clearing organizations “to actively identify new, evolving, or unique risks and implement risk mitigation measures tailored to the risks that these products or clearing-structure changes may present.”
