SEC Again Punts Decisions on Bitcoin ETFs: Crypto in DC

Sept. 5, 2023, 12:55 PM UTC

The SEC again deferred a decision on whether to approve the first US exchange-traded fund that invests directly in Bitcoin, dealing a setback to proponents heartened by Grayscale Investments legal victory over the agency.

The SEC deferred on filings from Bitwise, VanEck, Invesco, Valkyrie and WisdomTree, according to documents posted on its website last week. BlackRock was also deferred, according to a spokesperson for the firm.

The decision came after a federal appeals court overturned the agency’s rejection of Grayscale’s application to convert its Bitcoin trust into an ETF.
