Puerto Rican, IRS Drop Case Over ‘Seriously Delinquent’ Tax Debt

A resident of Puerto Rico and the federal government agreed to dismiss a lawsuit over the IRS’s alleged failure to remove an erroneous certification that she had a “seriously delinquent” tax debt.

That designation subjected Mónica Polemeni to the possibility of having her passport revoked and limited her ability to travel. The parties’ joint stipulation for voluntary dismissal Monday comes after a judge for the US District Court for the District of Puerto Rico held in March that her claims over the seriously delinquent status are moot because the IRS rescinded the certification and lifted the hold on her passport. ...
