Mexico’s Top Court Votes Against Salinas on Major Tax Claims (1)

Mexico’s Supreme Court has upheld some key tax claims against companies owned by billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego, with more decisions slated to be voted Thursday.

The country’s high court is reviewing a total of 15 separate appeals which, according to corporate filings, involve taxes worth at least 33 billion pesos ($1.8 billion).

In the first cases of the session, justices effectively voted unanimously to reject reviewing tax claims from 2008, 2010 and 2013, worth some 21.9 billion pesos, according to the filings. That move upholds the government claims, which authorities can increase with penalties.
