Maine to Boost Senior Tax Benefit, Offer Paid Family Leave

A spending bill that increases tax benefits for seniors, creates a paid family leave program, and makes Maine’s dependent exemption tax credit refundable is heading to Gov. Janet Mills (D), who has said she will sign it.

State legislators voted Thursday to pass a two-year supplemental budget (LD 258), which includes a provision to make the dependent exemption tax credit refundable for residents and part-year residents beginning in 2024, and indexes the credit for inflation starting in 2025.
