Interactive Brokers Allowing Accounts to be Funded by Stablecoin

Interactive Brokers Group Inc. is now allowing retail investors to fund individual brokerage accounts with stablecoins as the once-bright lines between traditional and digital finance blur.

The feature is being introduced over time, starting with a portion of eligible US clients, an Interactive Brokers spokesperson confirmed in an emailed statement. The new capability means that consumers can fund directly from cryptocurrency wallets instead of tapping a bank account.

Billionaire chairman Thomas Peterffy initially announced the move at Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s financial-services conference Wednesday.
