Euroclear Starts Blockchain Platform With €100 Million Note Sale

Euroclear launched a platform for issuing traditional securities using blockchain, joining a growing list of financial institutions deploying the technology that underpins cryptocurrencies in search of greater efficiency.

Euroclear’s Digital Securities Issuance service was used by the World Bank to raise €100 million through a digital note that was then listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, Euroclear said in a statement on Tuesday.

Using distributed ledger technology meant the transaction could be settled instantly rather than over two days as is the current norm, Philippe Verriest, head of Digital Securities Issuance at Euroclear, said in an interview. The company, ...
