Criminals Using Crypto Are Easily Tracked, Coinbase Tells House

Governments and crypto exchanges have substantial ability to track illicit crypto transactions through the blockchain, John Kothanek, Coinbase’s vice president for global intelligence, tells a House Homeland Security panel Thursday.

  • “If you are a cyber criminal and you’re using crypto, you’re going to have a bad day,”
    • “We are going to track you down and we’re going to find that finance and we are going to hopefully help the government seize that crypto”
  • The statement comes as the Financial Stability Board has warned about the possibility of increasing use of crypto for illegal activity
