Coinbase Loses Supreme Court Dispute Over Dogecoin Sweepstakes

The US Supreme Court ruled against crypto exchange Coinbase over a 2021 Dogecoin sweepstakes.

In a unanimous ruling on Thursday by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the court ruled that a court, not arbitrator, should decide where the dispute belongs.

The case had a previous trip to the Supreme Court, with the court in 2023 ruling in Coinbase, Inc. v. Bielsk that proceedings in the trial court should be put on hold while the arbitration question is being hashed out.

The case relates to sweepstakes that consumers say they were duped into paying $100 to enter.
