NJ Sues GEO Group Over Immigrant Detention Facility Conditions

New Jersey sued private prison operator GEO Group Inc. over conditions at the Delaney Hall immigration facility in Newark that also have been the subject of violent protests in recent days.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday, asks a state court judge to give New Jersey Health Commissioner Raynard Washington full access to investigate reports at 1,000-bed Delaney Hall about the spread of communicable diseases, unsanitary food and drink practices, and unclean bathrooms. State officials claim they haven’t been allowed to conduct full inspections.
