Workforce development and defense and commercial manufacturing industry groups are among those commenting on the Education Department’s proposed regulations to expand Pell Grants for short-term vocational training.
Students would gain access to Pell for enrollment in workforce training typically provided at community and technical colleges that goes for eight to 15 weeks.
Expansion of the federal aid program, traditionally aimed at low-income students enrolled in undergraduate education, comes out of Republicans’ 2025 massive tax-and-spending law. The changes take effect July 1.
