Pennsylvania High Court Extends Ballot Deadline for November (1)

Pennsylvania election officials must extend by three days the deadline for receiving absentee ballots cast in the November general election to account for the strains caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court said Thursday.

The court exercised “Extraordinary Jurisdiction” to declare that ballots postmarked by 8 p.m. on Election Day, or un-postmarked ballots that arrive by 5 p.m. on Nov. 6, may not be disqualified as “late.” Election officials are also allowed to accept and count ballots deposited in unattended drop boxes, the court said.
