North Carolina Makes Absentee Voting Easier During Pandemic

North Carolina is temporarily lifting some of its absentee voting restrictions to make it easier to vote remotely during the pandemic.

Gov. Roy Cooper (D) on Friday signed into law a bill (H.B. 1169) that allows absentee ballot requests to be submitted electronically for the Nov. 3 general election. The new law, which just covers elections held this year, also allows for only one ballot witness instead of two.

The law provides temporary flexibility for recruiting precinct officials and provides funding to support increased costs from both absentee and in-person voting because of the coronavirus.
