Liberty University Sues Virginia Over Online Tuition Grant Bar

Changes Virginia made in 2020 to a nearly 50 year old tuition assistance program fails to account for the dramatic rise in online learning and discriminates in favor of “place-based” or residential students, Liberty University alleged today in a federal lawsuit.

The Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant program, as amended by Gov. Ralph Northam (D) “and his political allies” in the Virginia legislature effective July 1, 2020, for the first time excludes awards to new students enrolled strictly in online education or distance learning, according to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.
