Former clients and Washington insiders are puzzled by Republican fundraiser Mike Gula’s decision last week to close his successful firm and establish a business outside of politics.
His goodbye email announcing the closure rapidly spread far beyond its initial recipients, prompting anger, confusion, and surprise among Gula’s peers, clients, and others in Washington. In it, Gula said he’d “built another business outside politics and will be focusing my full attention there.”
It was the first his clients heard they’d soon be without a fundraiser, and it came days before the end of the first fundraising quarter of 2020.
