Food Aid Boost Seen Needed to Meet Demand in Coronavirus Times

Federal food assistance that helps Americans put dinner on their tables needs a boost in the next coronavirus-relief package, thousands of organizations told Senate leaders.

Almost 2,500 groups called for a 15% increase in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, maximum benefit, in a Thursday letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).

Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., and the NAACP were prominent names among the advocacy, faith, and anti-hunger organizations that signed their support.
