San Francisco Makes 30 Percent Local Hire Goal Permanent

San Francisco’s requirement that 30 percent of construction workers hail from the city is now permanent under an amendment unanimously approved March 21.

The local hire requirement is expected to be signed by Mayor Ed Lee (D) within 10 calendar days. It applies to construction projects on city-owned property and city-owned property sold for housing development.

The city said it designed the requirement to ensure that the city and its partners “are marshaling limited resources in an effective and coordinated way to create economic opportunities in San Francisco’s low-income communities.”
