Advisory Panel Supports Crane Rulemaking With Changes to OSHA Certification Proposal

A federal advisory committee recommended April 1 that the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration move forward with its proposed rulemaking to revise its crane standard’s requirements for certification and qualification.

The Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health made the recommendation during a two-day meeting to fine-tune specific provisions of the agency’s draft proposal.

OSHA’s next step in the rulemaking is to formally issue a proposed rule. Although OSHA has passed its target date for issuing a proposal, agency head David Michaels seemed to suggest that a rule could be finalized by January 2017. The fall 2014 ...
