Wright Medical Agrees to $240M Hip Implant Settlement

Wright Medical Technology Inc. has agreed to a $240 million settlement that will resolve nearly 1,300 personal injury suits involving metal-on-metal hip implants (In re Wright Med. Techology Inc., Conserve Hip Implant Prods. Liab. Litig., N.D. Ga., No. 12-2329, settlement 11/2/16).

The agreement covers suits in federal multidistrict proceedings, as well as California state court suits by plaintiffs who received Wright Conserve, Dynasty or Lineage hip implants that had to be replaced, Wright Medical said.

Plaintiffs alleged the devices failed prematurely, and leached metal debris and metal ions into the body. ...
