Wells Fargo Sued Over ‘Stealth Modifications’ to Mortgages

A North Carolina couple sued Wells Fargo & Co. for allegedly changing the terms of their home loan without approval from them or the court considering their Chapter 13 bankruptcy filing (Cotton v. Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., Bankr. W.D.N.C., 3:17-ap-03056, complaint 6/6/17).

Christopher and Allison Cotton — seeking to represent a class of debtors in a suit filed recently — accused the bank of an illegal “stealth modification” to their mortgage that lengthened the loan and increased interest costs.
