Welch Foods Inc. and consumers secured final approval of a $1.5 million nationwide class settlement resolving allegations the company deceptively touted several grape juice products as heart-healthy when they heightened the risk of disease.
Welch’s also agreed to stop using phrases such as “helps support a healthy heart” or “helps promote a healthy heart” on the labels of its 100% Grape Juice, 100% Juice Red Sangria, and 100% Black Cherry Concord Grape Juice.
Curtis Hanson alleged those representations are false and misleading because 100% fruit juices increase the likelihood of developing of heart disease and diabetes.
