A Japanese government-backed investment fund should be blocked from taking control of vital, patented semiconductor technology that a New York university says its researchers developed, according to a federal lawsuit.

The breach-of-contract case threatens to disrupt Japan Investment Corp.'s proposed $6.4 billion buyout of JSR Corp., the world’s largest producer of key compounds needed to produce advanced microchips.
