University of Michigan Settles Lawsuit Over Sexual Misconduct

The University of Michigan reached a settlement of a proposed class action seeking to address “a culture of silence around sexual violence” on campus, telling a federal court on Thursday it will undertake institutional reforms to prevent misconduct and increase transparency.

The agreement, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, calls for the creation of a Coordinated Community Response Team that includes Title IX and campus sexual misconduct experts, representatives from the county prosecutor’s office, and domestic violence services, students, survivors, community members, and select members of the administration and faculty, the university said in ...
