UN Free From Class Action Over Haiti Cholera Outbreak (1)

The United Nations won’t have to face a class action by those affected by a cholera outbreak in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, the Second Circuit affirmed Dec. 28.

The U.N. has absolute immunity from suit in U.S. under the Convention on Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit said in an unpublished order.

Citizens of the U.S. and Haiti exposed to cholera in Haiti sued the U.N. for negligently causing the outbreak.
