Uber Background Checks Discriminate, New York Driver’s Suit Says

Uber Technologies Inc.'s blanket policy of using criminal history to prevent drivers from working for the ride-hailing platform violates New York City law and disproportionately impacts Black and Latinx individuals, a former driver claims in a newly-filed class action.

Uber uses a company, Checkr Inc., to conduct background checks and deactivates drivers who have certain criminal histories, according to the lawsuit filed Thursday at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
