Trump University Fraud Settlement Clears First Hurdle

President-elect Donald Trump’s $25-million settlement with former students who claimed they were defrauded by his namesake university won preliminary court approval Dec. 20 (Low v. Trump Univ. LLC, S.D. Cal., 10-840, preliminary settlement approval 12/20/16; Cohen v. Trump, S.D. Cal., 13-2519, preliminary settlement approval 12/20/16).

U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel in San Diego said that the settlement, which will reimburse the students about half of what they paid for the Trump University real-estate seminars less refunds they already received, was fair and adequate.
