Trader Joe’s Put Customers at Risk of Identity Theft, Suit Says

Trader Joe’s Co. put customers at its stores nationwide at risk of identity theft by printing too many digits of their credit cards on receipts, a class action filed July 17 alleges.

Brian Keim received a receipt showing the first six and last four digits of his debit card number, according to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act requires retailers to truncate the card number to five digits on printed receipts.

Trader Joe’s knowingly or recklessly fails to comply with the statute, the complaint says. ...
