Tenants Win Class Status in Suit Over Deposits, Debt (Corrected)

Former tenants of Washington state properties managed by HNN Associates LLC will proceed as a class with claims alleging it and others violated state and federal law by improperly withholding security deposits and subjecting them to unlawful debt collection practices, according to a new federal ruling.

Certified class claims will proceed against HNN, housing landlord Gateway LLC, and Columbia Debt Recovery LLC, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington held.

Adama Jammeh and Oumie Sallah claim that HNN routinely keeps the security deposits for tenants without providing specific justification for doing so.
