Target Corp. can pay $8.2 million to settle a class action challenging how it marketed and managed a store-branded debit card, a federal judge in the Southern District of California ruled Dec. 2.
The deal includes a $5 million cash payment and requires Target to waive more than $3.2 million in “returned payment fees” that were charged to holders of the Target Debit Card when they were deemed to have insufficient funds for a purchase. The retailer also agreed to refrain from assessing these fees on transactions of less than $7 for the next two years.
