Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Ticket Fax Class Settlement Unraveled

Preliminary approval of a $20 million class settlement in a suit over junk faxes advertising Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets was revoked Sept. 30 by the Middle District of Florida over conflict of interest concerns.

The named plaintiffs are inadequate class representatives because they are subject to a greater statute of limitations risk than other class members, the court said.

It decertified the settlement class, vacated the preliminary approval order, and struck the class allegations. The settlement provided a settlement fund of up to $19.5 million with payments of up to $565 for class members who submitted claims.
