Splenda maker TC Heartland LLC has engaged in a “decades long consumer fraud” by marketing products as healthy for diabetics and others even though the primary ingredient—sucralose—has been shown to cause or worsen diabetes, a new proposed class action alleges.
The World Health Organization advised in May against the consumption of sugar alternatives like sucralose, noting specifically the “increased risk of type 2 diabetes, heart diseases, and mortality in adults, the lawsuit says.
