Solar Customers Get Panels Under Class Action Settlement

Consumers alleging they were duped into leasing solar panels with promises of cost savings will get ownership of the panels under a class settlement that won final approval Feb. 28.

The 2,500 class members will own their panel arrays free and clear, at a value of $5,000 to $10,000 each, Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon wrote for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

The settlement also forgoes outstanding monthly payments, and cancels class members’ obligations to pay continuing maintenance contract fees. That puts the value of the settlement between $12,500,000 and $25,000,000, the court said.
