Robocall Class Settlement Worth $6 Million Denied Initial Nod

A proposed $6 million settlement to resolve allegations a website made illegal robocalls to 56,000 consumers needs another look, the Western District of Washington ruled Sept. 25.

The court cited problems with the class definition, claims process, and cy pres recipient as reasons for denying preliminary approval.

The consumers sued A Place for Mom Inc., which owns and operates a website that refers people to thousands of senior housing communities and providers. The site tricks them into providing their cell phone numbers and obscures that they are consenting to receive robocalls, the suit alleges.
