Ray-Ban Maker Wins as Court Nixes Eyewear Monopolization Suit

Paris-based EssilorLuxottica SA defeated an antitrust suit claiming it dominated the premium eyewear market after a federal judge found the plaintiffs failed to allege sufficient facts to support a monopoly.

Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York on Friday granted the company’s motion to dismiss while giving the plaintiffs leave to replead.

EssilorLuxottica, the result of a 2018 merger, makes the iconic Ray-Ban eyewear brand and the sporty Oakley sunglasses. It also sells the eyewear of brands including Chanel, Prada, Tory Burch, and Coach as well as optical lenses.
