Quora Users’ Negligence Claims Over Data Breach Greenlighted

Quora Inc. failed to shake off proposed class negligence claims alleging the company didn’t safeguard personal identity information from a 2018 breach that compromised nearly 100 million users’ data, after the Northern District of California found that time and money spent on credit monitoring is cognizable harm.

Named plaintiff Jeri Connor spent money purchasing a premium version of an identity-protection service and spent “typically an hour” per day monitoring her credit as a result of the data breach—allegations that are sufficiently specific to establish injury, the court said.
