Prisoners May Sue Successor Company Over Van Conditions

Prisoners held in allegedly inhumane conditions in prison van may be able to hold a successor company liable, the Southern District of Florida ruled.

Prisoner Transportation Services LLC may have taken on the liabilities of U.S. Corrections LLC when it acquired the company, the court said.

Named plaintiff Jeffrey Groover may therefore pursue a proposed class action against PST, the court said, denying the company’s motion to dismiss.

Groover alleges he was transported by U.S. Corrections in a windowless van with insufficient ventilation and air conditioning, causing him to suffer heat stroke.
