Premera to Pay Customers $32 Million to Settle Data Breach Suit

Premera Blue Cross will pay $32 million to resolve a class action over a 2015 data breach that affected 10.6 million customers, according to settlement documents filed May 30.

It will also spend $42 million over three years on comprehensive remedial measures and beefed up security practices if the deal is approved by the court overseeing the litigation.

“The proposed settlement agreement is an outstanding result, reached through numerous arm’s-length negotiations after heavily-contested litigation by experienced and well-informed counsel,” class counsel said in its unopposed motion for preliminary approval.
